AASTA Planetarium

Auxiliary Spaces

While the emphasis is deservedly placed on the auditorium, we also envision that this planetarium would accomodate a variety of activities essential to its operation.  The lobby portion, where guests would gather to await the start of the planetarium show, would feature informative and interactive exhibits on astronomy, spaceflight, and the relationship of these fields to life on earth and the human experience.

With its inviting double doors and sky lights in the spacious vaulted ceiling, it could easily host small social gatherings in which a planetarium presentation is an integral part.

A classroom aside the lobby would accomodate formal astronomy instruction for up to 12 students at a time.

In the back part of the facility, a production room would accomodate the development custom shows.  This room would include a library of video and audio media, imagery, reference material, and editing workstations.

Staff offices could also be incorporated in the facility, along with adjacent areas for a photocopier, a printer, office supplies, and other essential office support items.
